Volunteering

Live on a finca and help with Agrotourism in Mendoza, Argentina

Description

We are a married couple. About 50 years old. We have a finca of 8 has of which 2 has are dedicated to intensive cultivation of tomatos. The tomatos are sun dried and packed either dry or in oil for local market. We also grow alpha alpha for our animals. Our season really gets going from the end of August with seeding the green houses, there after plenty of care and planting out around mid November. Harvesting and processing from mid January thru to March. Agro tourism comes along with the project.

Our finca is turn key, from seed to green house to planting, harvesting and processing. We have 6 llamas, 1 horse, 1 donkey, Jenny, she talks alot, 4 dogs and 5 cats...... all including ourselves are non smokers. We are multi trade persons. We do our own civil, mechanical and electrical works including steel fabrication and development of our specialised implements. machinary and process equipment. The finca is located 15 kms from the town centre on paved roads. One of us travel to and from town almost daily. There is a bus service available at the front gate. Local rural shops with limited supplies are within 1 Km of the finca

Help

Be great to have people who have general interest in farming, however the season does drag out a bit. Tomatos have a mind of their own, pressure on....off as the harvesting is selective for sun drying..weed control can be challenging! We participate in all aspects of the finca. Time off is important along with meeting friends and family.

Skill Requirements

We wish to pass on skills you would never dream of having. From tractor driving and maintainence to welding. The list is endless.

Work on the finca is pretty demanding. Physical fitness is important

Languages spoken

English and Spanish

Accommodation

Twin share. Common kitchen, shared duties ( we provide three reasonable meals per day )
Accommodation and seperate bathroom away from the main house.

What else ...

We are busy professionals. Climate from end of October is very hot to the end of March. The harvesting and drying is pretty intense. This is semi desert and do our best to conserve water. Great grape and fruit growing region. The wine is good too! Enjoy!
